I am a car seat tech, and an ER RN. I have seen kids become quadriplegics due to forward facing at young ages. My almost 4 yr old and my 28 month old are still rear facing and will be until they are 45 lbs. It would be my expert opinion that your child will be up to 4 times safer if kept rear facing. As a parent, please consider their safety. It is easy to keep them rear facing if it’s all they know. You can get a seat that will rear face up for 40 lbs and harness to 65 lbs. That would be my suggestion for you. The newest recommendations from the AAP is to keep kids rear facing until age 2 or they reach the weight limit of their convertible seat, whichever is LONGER. Motor vehicle collisions are the leading cause of PREVENTABLE deaths of kids in the US. And there has never been a documented case of leg injury from extended rear facing. Please don’t think I am preaching, I just try to do what I can to keep kids safe!Any questions, feel free to ask.

Q:Does this have the new buckle after the recall?
A:Yes, has new buckle. Models produced after 8/19/2013 have new buckle. We purchased in Feb 2014. Seat was manufactured in Dec 2013 and had the new buckle. We ordered the recall anyway and the replacement buckle was identical.

Q:Would you recommend using at 1 years, forwards? Now son is 10 months, 20lbs and 30in…I wonder how soon I could convert directly to this – thoughts?

A:No, absolutely not. Children need to be rear facing until a minimum of age two. Check out these links about why rear facing until two is imperative for your baby’s safety! https://csftl.org/why-rear-facing-the-science-junkies-guide/https://csftl.org/rear-facing-car-seat-myths-busted/…

Q:What is the padding like on the bottom, going for a 16 hour road trip? Thanks!
A:I wish the padding on my own seat was as good as the padding on the Graco Nautilus.

Q:does anyone know if this ships with a seat belt locking clip or do i need to buy one separately? thanks!
A:It comes with the hooks that you clip between the seats for safety

Q:I am reading the reviews and looking at the pictures, and I am floored that many of these “babies” are not rear facing!!! How can I trust their review?
A:This car seat is not for children under 20 lbs; therefore not for infants and some toddlers. We purchased it after our child outgrew the infant rear-facing seat.

Q:Can I use the car seat on a car which does not have a latch system?
A:This car seat is equipped with dual auto seat fastener options. You can either use the latch or seat belt. I use both but either can serve individually.

Q:I have read hundreds of reviews on this car seat on Amazon as well as Walmart , Target and Babies R us. My first thought was to buy this seat. The Graco Nautilus is a good car seat all in all, but has bad reclining feature. I agree, the recline feature seems to be only for fitting it into your car, not for the comfort of your child. My son is 2 years, and we keep struggling with his head bobbing around with every turn or when the car slows down (momentum pulls his head forward) – poor guy… You may want to try it out in the car you’re fitting it in to see if it helps to adjust the car seat while the grace is fixed into it.

Q:when my baby is sleepign his neck falls with the car movement, did i made a bad choice or a seat bad position?, it does not enought recline
A:It actually is the car seat as I also have the same problem…. :( We have another car seat in our other vehicle which does not have this issue.

Q:What is the measurement from the back of the seat to the crotch buckle?
A:I removed the extra padding since my son is in the 90th percentile for height and weight, so from the back of the seat to the first slot is 5.5″ and to the second is 7.5″.

Q:I don’t see the max height this seat will accommodate, anyone know? My grandson is 11mos. and 32″ tall and has outgrown his Graco SnugRide.
A:There isn’t a max height because it converts to a booster seat. The minimum weight is 20 lbs

A:I would ask at the car-seat.org forums. They can probably help you. Also you can try putting the seats in your car at a Babies R Us to see if they fit.

Q:Parents, help me out! Is this a great car seat? Done some research on which car seat to buy, and I can’t make my mind up on which one is the best.

Q:The latest buyers: What year of manufacture is the seat you bought recently? I know Graco just issued a recall on models made up to 7/31/13

I’ve personally never had a problem with mine, and she’s old enough now to not need the 5 point harness- so I don’t need a replacement. Q:Can a child under one year be in this booster
A:I dont think so since children under 2 need to be in the back in rear-facing position and this seat cant be placed like that. I had to return it.

Q:Is it appropriate for us now, and how long do you think we could use it (and do we need to buy another one later?the kid is2.5 years, 25lb now. Thanks
A:My daughter is 6 now, bought it when she 2, and she’s still using it. I won’t be needing another car seat ever. I’d say it’s worth it.

Q:Does anyone know if this will fit in a 97 Ford F150 extended cab with one swing out door and the shorter backseat bench?
A:I’m not exactly sure…..my guess is that it would fit but be tight. As far as seats for kids in this age range go, this seat is not too big.

Q:1. This seat has isofix? 2.Can this car seat move back and forth?
A:Yes, the seat has isofix. No, the seat doesn’t move back and forth.

Q:Is there a cover to use over the car seat while in the car? Mine gets car sick. I am looking for a comfy but useful cover for it. Thanks
A:Hello,We are thinking there is not a cover. Still looking into the matter. Thank You!

Q:If I purchase this carseat today (4/21) would the buckle part still be a recalled part, or will it have the updated buckle already installed?
A:We have no clue! It depends on when the seat was manufactured.

Q:Can this seat be installed without the tether? i drive a 2000 honda odyssey and it does not have tether anchors, will i need to have some installed?
A:You can have some installed for free at the Honda dealer. It’s safer to have it tethered I’m not sure if it’s required though

Q:NHTSA rules say combo weight for child & car seat can’t be more than 65lb when using tethers, but this seat says OK for 65lb child with harness??

Q:I installed the seat and the bottom of the seat is very tight and doesn’t move much. but when i shake the top near the head it moves a ton. normal?
A:I wish I could help. How did you get the bottom to be tight? The whole seat is loose.

Q:what is the assemble package size of this seat?
A:If you mean the size of the seat outside of the box it’s about 31″ high 21″ wide and 20 ” deep.

Q:I heard you can not remove the strap in between the kids legs when they get older and it bothers is that true?
A:You should be able to remove it, the same way you would move it from one slot to the other.

Q:what is the expiry date ?
A:They asked for the date of manufacture 9/21/2011 and when I purchased the item. There is no expiration date. I was able to get a full seat-belt crotch replacement on my own after I purchased another replacement car seat.

Q:Does this seat work for rear facing?
A:Nope.

Q:is it faa approved? has anyone used with spirit airline?
A:Yes

Q:Can this car seat be used rear facing?
A:No it is only for forward facing and 20lbs or more.

Q:Has anyone used this car seat on an airline? If not, can it be taken apart and carried it in overhead bin as I do not want to check it in? Thanks
A:We not used in in airline, but we take it a part of carried in Swissair (no additional payment is needed). The official swiss answer: “Please note that you can check in either a stroller or a car seat free of charge in addition to the free baggage allowance of 1PC X 23KGS checked in luggage

Q:Can you face backwards with this seat? Or is it only forward facing?
A:From what we’ve tried, only forward facing.

Q:Does it include isofix latch?
A:Yes, it had the latch. Also is really one of the best I seen, we love it

Q:what are the height limits on this?

Our son is two years, eight months and tall for his age. The straps in back do come out below his shoulders, but hook over pretty easily. There’s also a pad or two we haven’t removed. At some point the rest of the chair piece strips away so it’s just the booster seat, but so far we haven’t had any problems getting him in and making sure he’s secure. If you’re insistent on having the straps higher than his shoulders, then you might want to try something else. As for being too tight, the straps easily loosen in front so he still has plenty of room to grow with it. The only slight issue is whether you want the straps “really snug” every time your child gets in. If that’s the case, you might have to loosen them, put him/her in, and then tug them every time rather than just slap the toddler in. Takes a few seconds, but some people prefer to plug and play! Hope this helps.

Q:Hi, I would like to know, please, if Can I use this carseat from 12 month?

Q:my son is 5mnts old and is 24lbs, could I change him over to a regular car seat? or is he to young?
A:The nautilus is not for a 5 months since it not reclining. Little age babies need to reclain and sleep.

Q:Does the crotch strap adjust any at all?
A:to adjust the crotch strap you have to rethread it into the other (outer) slot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ICzmfZ37DQ watch this clip and get a hammer. (it only took me 5 minutes to adjust my son’s)

Q:Do you have to rethread the shoulder straps to adjust for child’s height?
A:Yes

Q:can you use this car seat on an airplane or does anyone know a good one for travelling
A:I think there is no label because the instruction booklet says that it is only FAA approved if the 5 point harness is used. If it is not used then it is not FAA approved. THat is probably why they didn’t put the sticker on it. Ask the airline if they will take the instruction manual as proof.

Q:Does the cover come off so it can be washed?
A:Yes you can take everything out and wash all the covers and seat. Is practical and easy.

I went to the store today intending to buy the Frontier…I’ve used Britax seats for my kids from their first car seats. But I left the store with two Nautilus’…here’s why:1. I own a Regent, and the way the cover is attached to the seat is horrible. The cover is constantly slipping off when my child gets into and out of the seat. The Frontier looked better, but did there were “weaknesses” in the way it attached to the seat itself. The Nautilus covers were well-attached with elastic/hooks in many places. And – bonus! – you can remove the bottom cushion without taking the top apart, which is key for a potty-trainer.2. The arm rests seemed flimsy on the Frontier. They would not stay in position, and constantly drooped downward. On the contrary, the Nautilus cup holder is solid.3. The cup holders were difficult to open and stay open. Cheap materials and design for an expensive seat. The arm rests on the Nautilus are stationary, but much more solid and comfortable to use.Price was not a factor in this decision, and I considered saving $200 on two car seats simply a bonus. They both seemed to be solid seats, and the Frontier just did not live up to the expectations I had from owning 2 Boulevard’s…and therefore did not warrant the price premium.

I think I understand what you are asking. I am answering your question assuming you are a new parent and not that familiar with the differing car seat options. I apologize if that is not the case and for providing redundant information. Just want to make sure you realize this car seat can not be used as rear facing. Before I transitioned to this front facing car seat for my 17 month old I was using a Graco rear facing infant car seat that was compatible with my Graco stroller. I think all Graco infant car seats are compatible with every Graco stroller, but not 100% sure. I bought mine at Babies R Us as a combo which I highly recommend for new parents, so you don’t have to spend time buying each component. It came with a car seat base to install in my SUV using the LATCH restraint system. You can purchase an extra base for your infant rear facing car seat for use in another car. At around the six month mark, around the time my daughter developed stability in her head and neck we would place her in the stroller front facing so that she could see the sights around her. However, she was still small and petite enough to use the rear facing car seat in the car until a few months ago when her weight and length began to exceed the limits of the seat. We wanted to keep her rear facing for safety reasons as long as we could, but plenty of my friends have transitioned their children to a front facing seat a lot sooner than we did. Mainly around the time their baby started sitting up on their own without support. Hope this helps.

A:I don’t have a problem with the seat shifting but that may be because I have leather seats and I placed a towel between the seat and the car seat. I did this as a protection of spills from sippy cups but it may be serving a duel purpose protect from spills and preventing car seat shifting.

Q:wha5 kind of latch does it have
A:Not Sure. I have to say, this was the most hateful thing I have ever installed in my life. The instructions were not helpful. I was finally able to get it installed after viewing installation on YouTube.

Q:Can this one be rear facing? Thanks.
A:Sorry no, the instructions say forward facing only in the installation guide.

Q:Does this model have in its warning label the information that can be used in aircrafts?

Check at the bottom of the car seat if its not on either side. My husband and I traveled several times with our baby girl since she was an infant and never felt the need to bring the car seat in the plane. Too much to carry already and I found it better to calm her down while in my arms. I did travel with her once by myself (2hrs long) and she and I did fine. In our trip to Norway she felt more comfortable as she was able to stand up on the seat and stretch out a little. I just felt like the seat would make her feel restricted and cause potential tantrums. In any case, check the bottom of the seat to see if the sticker is there. If not, I am sure Graco’s customer service can help. Safe travels!

Q:Is it better to buy graco nautilus 3-in-1 car seat($144) or graco 4ever($299)? this is for a 2 year old.
A:I LOVE the 3-in-1 and so does my 2 year old. It’s perfect!

Q:Are the straps easy to tighten? I have another “pricey” carseat currently, but the pull strap to tighten the chest straps is impossible to pull.
A:I feel that’s its pretty easy to pull the strap to tighten it

Q:Isn’t this car seat recalled?

A:Not current models. 2007- Aug 2013 models were recalled for the buckles supposedly being hard to open over time.Website:https://www.gracobaby.com/safetyandrecall/pages/safetyandrecallarticle.aspx?recallid=41…
